Advocate Winnie Akinyi Odhiambo, a distinguished legal practitioner, partner in a prestigious law firm, and advocate of the High Court of Kenya, is an exemplar of dedication, resilience, and a harmonious work-life balance. Born in Kenya’s Homa bay County, Nyatoto village on 20th December 1995, she embarked on a remarkable journey that would see her rise to prominence in Kenya’s legal landscape. Her journey from orphanhood to becoming a legal luminary is a testament to her indomitable spirit. Winnie exhibited a passion for justice from an early age, inspired by stories of legal victories and the pursuit of fairness. She went to Lower Kabete Primary School and later transitioned to Migingo Girls’ Secondary School in Kisumu County. After completing her secondary education with top honors, she pursued her undergraduate degree in law at a renowned Kenyan university, the University of Nairobi. With unwavering determination, she secured a scholarship from Africa Digna Foundation based in Spain, that not only alleviated the financial burden but also provided her the opportunity to realize her dreams. Upon graduating with LLB Honours in 2019, Winnie joined the Kenya School of Law in 2020 for her Advocate Training Program (Post-Graduate Diploma), and was admitted to the bar on 2nd March 2023.
She began her legal career as a junior associate at Mwaure & Mwaure Waihiga Advocates, a respected firm known for its commitment to ethical legal practice. Through dedication, meticulous research, and an unyielding commitment to her clients, she swiftly rose through the ranks, earning a reputation as a formidable legal mind. In August 2023, Winnie achieved a significant milestone in her career by becoming a Resident Partner at Mwaure & Mwaure Waihiga Advocates. Her promotion was a testament to her legal acumen, leadership skills, and her ability to foster a collaborative work environment. As a partner, she contributed and continues to contribute to the firm’s growth. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Advocate Winnie is a loving wife and devoted mother. Winnie skillfully navigates the demands of a thriving legal career while ensuring her family remains a top priority. Her ability to strike a balance between her roles as a legal practitioner, partner, wife, and mother has inspired many aspiring lawyers, proving that it is indeed possible to excel in all facets of life. Advocate Winnie also pays forward the support she once received by actively participating in initiatives that provide scholarships to underprivileged students, as well as other community initiatives targeting children with disabilities, and the less privileged families.
